Why is there a United Way of Portage County?
· To help people who really need help
· To identify needs in the community and to target various funding methods to help meet those needs
· To unite leaders and volunteers from all walks of life in order to more effectively charge the fight for positive change in Portage County
· To increase effective use of contributed dollars through a cost-efficient annual United Way campaign
· To provide free-of-charge information and referral services to all Portage County residents. United Way’s 211 Portageinformation and referral service, connects families and individuals in Portage County with community resources and volunteer opportunities
United Way of Portage County Community Impact Areas
United Way of Portage County’s Community Impact Areas were formed to focus community efforts to help people in the most efficient and effective manner. By centering our energy on supporting and maintaining services in these five areas, United Way is able to help create greater change in our county.
United Way of Portage County’s Community Impact Areas are:
Crises:
Access to disaster relief programs, counseling, food and shelter in times of crisis
Children & Youth:
Services to children and teens that give them access to educational, recreational and self- esteem building programs in a safe environment
Adults:
Services for adults that increase independence and confidence; senior citizen programs that lend assistance and foster self-sufficiency
Families:
Training, counseling and supportive services designed to strengthen the family unit
Health:
Access to affordable, reliable health care to meet physical and emotional needs
