Emergency Preparedness and Education

This program prepares Portage County residents to respond to disasters, life-threatening emergencies, and daily living situations through presentations and  training classes.  The American Red Cross is the leading community educator and provider of knowledge, skills, and attitudes that enable people to prevent, prepare for and respond to occupational, community, family health and safety emergencies.  Community programs provide first aid, CPR and AED training; Aquatics Training; and Caregiving Training which includes Babysitter Training and Family Caregiving Training.

Assists schools with addressing the social skills development issues that are often associated with children who have been diagnosed with an emotional disturbance.  Most school personnel who work with these children can develop a curriculum and utilize teaching methods that provide appropriate academic instruction, but many have not had training in how to address their social skills development needs.

Counseling Services are available to individuals, couples, and families experiencing difficulty coping with domestic violence, family problems, parenting, and school-related behavioral problems.

Helps individuals explore different programs offered by the pharmaceutical companies, and assists in application completion to lower their out of pocket expenses and/or receive free medications.


Medication Assistance Program (A program of the Kidney Foundation)

The Kidney Foundation supplies prescription medication assistance for the direct treatment of the hypersensitive patient with kidney disease, the dialysis patient, and patient recipients that require the treatment of disorders affecting kidney transplants.

The Medical Transportation Program assists patients with a mileage reimbursement or cab voucher which enables them to receive life-saving dialysis therapy or an organ transplant.

Mobile Meals provides quality meals and nutrition services to individuals of all ages who are assessed to be at nutritional risk. Meal types include hot, frozen, therapeutic, shelf stable “blizzard boxes” and supplements.

Alcohol & Drug Counseling (A program of Townhall II)

Townhall II Alcohol and Drug Counseling Services and Helpline are in place to provide state-certified outpatient drug and alcohol counseling to residents of Portage County. The goal of the program is to half the abusive/addictive use of alcohol and other drugs; reduce the harmful effects of alcohol and drug use and to promote the health and well-being of customers receiving services.

The Townhall II Medical Clinic provides free, easily accessible and culturally sensitive primary healthcare to adult residents of Portage County who are low income and uninsured. The clinic’s focus lies within both the office setting and outreach services used to link patients to other appropriate resources for specialized care.
