The After-School
Tutoring program connects volunteers, including many Kent State
University college students, with local children and youth who
are in need of after-school academic assistance. Jake’s Kids is a
summer program held morning through afternoon, that provides
local children and youth with a safe place to go when school is
no longer in session. The program provides children with meals,

The Salvation Army
Learning Center is an effective after-school tutorial and
enrichment program for children in first through fifth grade
that emphasizes academics, social maturity, and spiritual
well-being of youth in Portage County that are in danger of
falling behind in their formal education.
The
Kidventure Summer Enrichment Program runs full day, four
days a week for 10 weeks during the summer. Through
collaboration with Kent State University, students serve as
tutors for the program. Goals of the program are to develop
academic skills, enhance creativity and to build self-esteem and
confidence. Camp NEOSA provides the opportunity for
low-income children throughout Portage County to have a one week
overnight camping experience. The Youth Development Program
focuses on the mental, physical, social and spiritual aspects of
a child’s life. The Music Program offers instruction in
brass, string, percussion and woodwind instruments; as well as
piano, sacred dance and drama.
